Confinement After Dog Bites

SDHD enforces Iowa Code 351.39 by ordering and enforcing the confinement of dogs that have bitten a person or otherwise are suspected of having rabies. Public health action is for the specific purpose of rabies prevention and does not enforce city or county ordinances regarding vicious dogs, etc. Each bite will involve a 10-day quarantine order either at home or a facility. SDHD personnel releases the dog from confinement as long as it is healthy after 10 days.

See below for links to listed reports of bites that SDHD has responded to. Breeds listed are as reported to our office by the owner of the dog.
